The Toledo Lions Club is asking you to join us in a bold venture to better the Greater Toledo Community.

In the early 2000's, the Toledo Lions Club began looking for ways to help the Toledo community grow in the new century. With this in mind, they created the Toledo Legacy Fund d/b/a/ TOLEDO WASHINGTON HIGHER EDUCATION FUND, registered with the State of Washington as a Charitable Organization and granted tax-exempt status under Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3) EIN 81-1709204.

The mission is that, in time, the fund will provide scholarships to qualified graduates of Toledo High School, who have attended at least their junior and senior years at Toledo High School, allowing these students to attend higher education institutions such as an accredited college, vocational-technical, or trade school of their choice.

The hope is to ease the financial burden faced by our community's graduates and provide an avenue for all kids to have the opportunity to achieve a higher education. The benefit to the Toledo community is by raising the level of education of its residents, it will in turn, bring better quality jobs and economic stability to our community.

The management of the Toledo Washington Higher Education Fund is governed by non-compensated Toledo Lions Club members on a rotating board. As stated in the Articles of Incorporation, "The purpose of the corporation is to provide scholarships to worthy student graduates of Toledo High School." If the fund were ever to dissolve, the money would be distributed to the Toledo School District to be used only for scholarships.

The goal is to create a perpetual fund that over time can sustain the mission as well as grow to keep up with rising costs of education. Many think this is a lofty goal for such a small community. However, in just the first ten years, and with contributions from the Toledo Lions Club, the Toledo Cheese Days Committee and private individuals, the Fund has grown to more than three hundred thousand dollars. Within the next few years, it is the goal to have more than one million dollars in the fund so we can start giving every qualified graduate of Toledo High School the opportunity for a higher education.

Please join us in this venture to better the Toledo community by giving to the Toledo Washington Higher Education Fund.
